Mitch Teplitsky
Mitch is a New York City-born, Bloomington-based documentary filmmaker and distribution consultant who loves to tell hopeful stories about inspiring people across cultures, from Indiana to New York and Peru. He is also the marketing director and author talk host for Morgenstern's, Indiana's largest independent bookstore. He is currently producing a documentary series of stories about Owen County, so you will likely find him somewhere in the County most weekends, recording stories with his local team: Henry Malone from Bloomington and Lex Barrett and Polina Saburova from Spencer.
Mitch's first film SOY ANDINA (2007), the story of two dancers in New York City who journey to Peru in search of roots and folkloric dance, screened on US public television nationwide and at hundreds of universities and festivals. worldwide. Other projects include RETURN TO THE ANDES, about a woman running for mayor in Peru; NEW AMERICAN GIRLS, a web series about undocumented immigrants for PBS.org; and the Earthkeepers, a short film funded by Indiana Humanit8es about a married couple who start a composting business in Bloomington, IN.
Before making films, Mitch was the longtime marketing director at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and before that, worked in marketing for several media companies. Originally from NYC, he and his Peruvian-born wife Doris have been living in Bloomington, IN since 2017.
